Three bodies found at attacker’s home in Kraków, says Polish PM

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk confirmed investigators found three bodies inside the home of the suspect in the Kraków attack. Tusk said preliminary indications suggest the deceased are likely members of the suspect’s close family.

Police carried out searches at the houses of the suspect and his relatives after the afternoon shooting that left six people dead and 16 wounded on the city’s main square.

Speaking about the scene at the suspect’s home, Tusk warned: "There could be quite a lot of weapons in that house, quite a lot of firearms." He added he was "convinced" authorities would be able "very quickly" to detain "possible supporters of the perpetrator" and that police and other services would inform the public "as soon as possible."

Police response and casualties

Polish police chief Marek Boroń said officers exchanged fire with the attacker three minutes after receiving a report about the incident, which arrived shortly after 15:30 local time. The suspect was shot and taken to hospital, where authorities describe his condition as serious; he reportedly fired back during his arrest.

Two police officers required surgery for injuries sustained in the exchange of fire, and about 30 police units were deployed to the scene to assist. Among the six people killed were three Polish nationals and one British citizen; the other three victims have not yet been identified.

Authorities are also inspecting the suspect’s vehicle to determine whether it poses a threat or could explode. Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said the 25-year-old suspect is believed to have been dressed in military-style clothing, and that early analyses indicate he may have been inspired by far-right ideologies — a link that officials said still needs confirmation.

Additional security measures have been announced in Warsaw following the attack, and investigators continue to comb the suspect’s home and contacts as they piece together the motive and any wider network.
