Nine Palestinians killed in past 24 hours in Gaza; death toll reaches 73,431

Nine Palestinians were killed by Israeli fire in the Gaza Strip over the past 24 hours, bringing the toll since October 2023 to 73,431, the Palestinian Ministry of Health reported.

Latest reports

The ministry said that among the nine victims there were six people killed by Israeli forces, two who later succumbed to their wounds, and one person whose body was pulled from the rubble. In the same period, 36 people were wounded, raising the total number of injured to 174,437.

A medical source earlier told local agencies that two Palestinians had died of wounds from Israeli fire. One of those victims died from injuries sustained in Israeli shelling west of Khan Yunis in southern Gaza, and the other succumbed to severe wounds from an Israeli strike on the Al-Amal neighbourhood in Khan Yunis several days earlier.

Local witnesses reported that Israeli military vehicles opened heavy fire on houses and tents sheltering displaced civilians in areas south of Khan Yunis. Israeli artillery also fired shells toward the Bureij refugee camp and the area around the Wadi Gaza bridge in central Gaza.

In the north, military vehicles fired on Palestinian homes in Beit Lahiya while heavy artillery bombardment was also reported there, according to eyewitnesses.

The recent strikes continued despite a call from U.S. President Donald Trump for Israel to halt attacks on Gaza. In a Fox News interview on 17 August he said: "Israelis should not attack in Gaza. Hamas agreed to lay down its weapons."

Since the ceasefire of 10 October 2025, Israeli strikes have killed 1,296 Palestinians and injured 4,296, the Gaza Ministry of Health says. Beyond human losses, Israel has destroyed roughly 90 percent of Gaza's civilian infrastructure, and the United Nations has estimated reconstruction costs at about $70 billion.
