LDP proposes family centers in every municipality after wave of violence

The Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) proposes opening family centers in every municipality as an urgent measure following a series of incidents of peer violence, including a disturbing case in Gostivar and gunfire at wedding celebrations.

The call was made in a video post on social media by the president of the LDP and a Member of the Assembly, Monika Zajkova, together with Executive Board member Boban Jankoski, who called for faster and more comprehensive prevention to stop violent patterns among young people.

"The LDP proposes the establishment of family centers in every municipality. They will include sociologists, psychologists, social workers and family therapists who will work with children but also with parents. They will be responsible for giving advice, listening to problems, and offering education. It is better to prevent than to constantly ‘treat’ something that is sometimes not even treated. Prevention is not a cost, prevention is an investment in North Macedonia's future," Zajkova says in the video statement.

Jankoski points out that we invest too little in prevention and wait too long for the problem to become serious: "Every day we see videos of peer violence. These children were not born as perpetrators, they are a product of a system that reacts slowly, of a society that neglects family, upbringing and mental health," he emphasizes.

According to the party, the centers should be professionally equipped spaces where experts will give advice, listen to family problems and conduct education and early-stage interventions for children and parents. The proposal names sociologists, psychologists, social workers and family therapists as key personnel.

The initiative comes amid increased public concern after several videos of violence: one disturbing video from Gostivar shows a boy who fell onto the asphalt after being kicked in the head, and was then beaten with a wooden rod; other wedding recordings show shots being fired. The LDP warns that prevention must become a priority to avoid repeat incidents of violence.
