European Week for Safety and Health at Work held in Skopje

The European Week for Safety and Health at Work is being held today at the Aleksandar Palace hotel in Skopje, with a focus on improving workplace safety, mental health and preventing psychosocial risks.

The event is organised by the Council for Safety and Health at Work with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO), and takes place within the project "Towards a safe and healthy working environment in North Macedonia", financed by the European Union.

Discussion, awards and presentations

Organisers say the goal is to stimulate wider debate on developing a prevention culture, to share good practices and to explore avenues for improving working conditions. The day brings together representatives of state institutions, the EU Delegation, the ILO, the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work, employers, trade unions, companies and experts.

The opening programme includes speeches by the president of the Council for Safety and Health at Work, Jasmina Čaloska, and representatives from the Ministry of Economy and Labour, the EU Delegation, the ILO and the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work.

As part of the event, national awards for good practice in occupational safety and health for 2026 will be presented. Awarded companies will give presentations, followed by a panel discussion on the challenges and opportunities in the field.

Organisers emphasise that mental health and the prevention of psychosocial risks will remain among the central priorities for employers, institutions and policy makers involved in improving workplace safety across the country.
