Rain forecast from Friday through Sunday; heavier downpours on 1 November

Weather authorities warn that a combination of cyclone activity and moist Mediterranean air will bring mostly cloudy skies and local rain across North Macedonia from Friday, 30 October, and through the weekend (Saturday and Sunday, 31 October/1 November). Heavier precipitation is expected on Sunday, 1 November, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki said.

Key risks: heavy rain Sunday, snow above 1,500 m

Poposki said that a weak to moderate northerly wind will prevail. In Skopje and nearby areas the forecast through the period is mostly cloudy skies, a weak to moderate north wind and local rain showers.

"A weak to moderate wind will blow mainly from the north. In Skopje and surrounding areas during the period mentioned above the weather will be mostly cloudy with a weak to moderate wind from the north and with local rain showers.

Especially on Sunday (November 1) in the mountains above 1,500 metres the rain will change to snowfall. During this wave of precipitation locally a notable amount of water will fall (over 20 litres per square metre), particularly in the southern and southwestern regions of North Macedonia.

In the mornings temperatures will fall in the range of 2 to 9 degrees Celsius. In Skopje and its surroundings morning temperatures will also go down to around 9 degrees. Maximum daytime temperatures will climb between 11 and 18 degrees, while in Skopje and nearby areas daytime temperatures will reach about 16 degrees.

A lower maximum temperature is expected on Sunday (November 1), when highs will rise between 8 and 16 degrees, and in Skopje and the surrounding area highs will reach about 13 degrees," he said.
