Ministry asks DSZI to inspect care after nurse Ljubica Shavreska lost her fetus

The Ministry of Health has asked the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate (DSZI) to carry out an inspection into the care provided to nurse Ljubica Shavreska, who says she lost her pregnancy at 24 weeks after treatment at several health institutions.

Inspection ordered and an expert commission to follow

In a statement, the Ministry said it is monitoring the case closely and expressed sympathy for the allegations made public by Shavreska. The statement noted that, "We follow with attention and sympathize with the allegations made public by nurse Ljubica Shavreska, related to the treatment she received during pregnancy before it tragically ended with the loss of the fetus. Aware of the gravity of the patient’s experience and in order to fully and objectively determine all circumstances, we immediately initiated a request to the State Sanitary and Health Inspectorate (DSZI) to conduct oversight over the actions of the health institutions and medical personnel involved in the case."

The Ministry said that once the DSZI inspection is completed, it will set up an expert commission to review the conduct of the medical staff who treated the patient. "If any omissions in procedure are determined during the inspection procedure, we will act in accordance with applicable legal regulations," the Ministry added.

According to the account published by Shavreska on her Facebook page, her troubles began while she was in Ohrid and included an initial examination in Struga, a return to Ohrid, treatment in the private hospital "Plodnost", a visit to the Clinic for Gynecology and Obstetrics in Skopje, and finally care at Sistina Hospital.

The Ministry reiterated its stated commitment to providing quality and accessible medical care for every patient, with special attention to high‑risk pregnancies and cases with complications.

Shavreska publicly addressed the Ministry and its minister through her Facebook post, sharing a personal testimony of the sequence of medical contacts and interventions that, she says, took place while she was 24 weeks pregnant and ended with the loss of the fetus.
