Zelensky expects war with Russia to continue into winter after talks with Witkoff and Kushner
Zelensky made the remark after talks in Kyiv with Donald Trump’s special envoys, a visit that produced no major breakthrough.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he expects the war with Russia to continue into the winter after holding talks in Kyiv with Donald Trump’s special envoys.
The envoys, Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, travelled to Ukraine for the first time since the start of the full-scale Russian invasion. Their meetings in Kyiv concluded without an announcement of any major breakthrough.
Brief visit after talks in Moscow
Witkoff described his impressions of the Kyiv meetings, saying he was "encouraged" by what he called "substantial and important talks" in Kyiv. The visit followed talks the envoys held the previous day in Moscow with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Zelensky warned that he expects fighting to persist during the coming winter months and reiterated Kyiv’s conditions for any settlement.
He stressed that Ukraine seeks a just peace that removes the risk of renewed Russian aggression, rather than a deal that would leave the country vulnerable to future attacks.
