Zelensky: Ukraine never took part in an operation to sabotage Nord Stream 2
Zelensky rejected claims that Kyiv participated in planning or executing the blasts that damaged the Nord Stream pipelines in September 2022.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky denied any Ukrainian involvement in an operation tied to the sabotage of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline, speaking at a summit of Ukraine and the Nordic–Baltic Eight countries. He rejected suggestions that Kyiv played a role in planning or carrying out the attack.
"Ukraine has never officially participated in any operation related to the blowing up of Nord Stream 2," Zelensky said, stressing that Kyiv was not behind the planning or execution of the action.
He also emphasised that an investigation is under way and that Ukraine is ready to cooperate with German and other foreign authorities to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
Arrest in Croatia and past accusations
The German Federal Prosecutor's Office announced last week that another Ukrainian national, identified as Vladimir Z., was arrested in Croatia on a European arrest warrant issued by German authorities. He is suspected of being part of a group that placed explosives on the Nord Stream 1 and Nord Stream 2 pipelines in the Baltic Sea in September 2022.
German investigators previously accused another Ukrainian national, Sergij K., of being the organiser of the operation; he has denied the allegations.
The explosions on 26 September 2022 caused serious damage to the Nord Stream pipelines that link Russia and Germany, and investigations into responsibility for the sabotage remain ongoing.
