Farmers and livestock breeders from Pelagonia and southwest demand meeting with Prime Minister Mickoski

Farmers and livestock breeders from Pelagonia and the southwest have asked for an urgent, direct meeting with Prime Minister Mickoski to agree on measures they say are needed to prevent a complete collapse of domestic production.

After a meeting last night in Mogila they decided to try once more to resolve the problems through dialogue. Among their key demands are the complete payment of all delayed subsidies for grain crops from the autumn sowing 2024, the urgent distribution of green diesel cards, and corrections to the Program for subsidizing for 2026.

Demands and pressure points

They also demand full payment of outstanding subsidies to livestock breeders. The groups warn that deadlines are expiring and, with increasingly expensive inputs and import pressure, both livestock farming and next season’s sowing are under serious threat.

Another of their demands is stabilization of the milk purchase price; they add that under the current conditions dairy farming is at rock bottom.

The demands and an official invitation for a meeting will be sent to the Government in the coming days. The farmers and breeders say that if they do not receive a positive response, their next step will be a protest of even greater scale and intensity.
