4.5-magnitude earthquake shakes southern Albania

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake was recorded in southern Albania 35 minutes after midnight, authorities reported.

Epicenter near the coastal town of Himara

The quake's epicenter was located six kilometres northwest of the coastal town of Himara, at a shallow depth of five kilometres. It was felt in Himara and in neighbouring towns along the southern Albanian coast.

Residents and tourists described a brief but noticeable shaking that caused alarm among people in affected towns, but there are no reports of structural damage or injuries so far.

Seismological services and local authorities monitored the area after the event to check for possible aftershocks and to assess any impact on infrastructure and public safety.

Given the shallow depth, the tremor was perceptible across several populated seaside settlements, though initial information indicates the effects were limited to temporary disturbance and concern among locals and visitors.
