Retired teacher offers free holiday in Šarengrad in exchange for pet care

Retired teacher and textbook editor Dinka Juričić has published an unusual appeal: she is offering free accommodation and a short holiday in Šarengrad, Croatia, in return for someone looking after her dogs and cats while she attends a series of medical appointments.

A short stay in exchange for pet care

On Facebook she explained the immediate need: "I'm urgently looking for an individual, a married couple or a whole family who would stay at my place for free in the next week or two, and in the meantime would take care of my dogs and cats so that I can calmly complete all the appointments I have scheduled," she wrote. "I am waiting for your messages in the inbox," Dinka added.

This is not the first time Juričić has drawn attention with an unconventional offer of free lodging in Šarengrad. Earlier this year she sought a pensioner to join a small residential community, offering a free apartment provided the newcomer shared household and food expenses.

Juričić moved to Šarengrad in 2020 to care for her father after he developed dementia. Two years later she offered free accommodation for the first time to someone willing to relocate to the small Danube village.

The apartments she offers were originally built by her brother for his sons, who have since passed away. Juričić has said she intends to keep making those apartments available without charge to people in need or those who want to stay in Šarengrad.

Her latest proposal is simple and time-limited: free lodging and a holiday for one to two weeks, in exchange for basic help and the care of her pets while she completes scheduled medical obligations.
