Zernovski: After taking power Mickoski now says "breaking international treaties is not good"
On Directno Zernovski contrasted Mickoski’s Washington remarks with his recent declarations and criticised the leader’s change of rhetoric.
SDSM MP Andrej Zernovski told the evening television programme Directno that his tone when talking about the European Union must be more cautious than when criticising the United States, because, as he put it, "this stalemate in which we are stuck, because the prime minister does not want us to be part of the EU."
Zernovski pointed out that neighbouring countries such as Albania and Montenegro are already closing negotiating chapters, and – he emphasised – "one Canada is asking to become part of the EU, while we are not interested."

Referring to a statement by Hristijan Mickoski in Washington, Zernovski said Mickoski had claimed that breaking international agreements would be possible only "if we were alone in the world." The SDSM MP used that contrast to underline what he described as a U‑turn in the VMRO‑DPMNE leader's stance.
"The man who came to power promising to restore the name and to tear up the good‑neighbour agreement with Bulgaria now begins to reason differently and to say, after he came to power, that 'breaking international treaties is not good'," Zernovski said, criticising what he called a humiliating treatment of voters.
Zernovski concluded that such a reversal of rhetoric and assurances that treaty termination would be harmful at this moment are unacceptable, and stressed that the remarks highlight the political inconsistency he sees in the ruling party.
