Construction crew in Dendermonde found around 50 gold bars and piled coins in a cellar; value estimated at €9 million.
Construction workers in the Belgian town of Dendermonde uncovered a cache of gold estimated at about €9 million, local authorities said.
The workers alerted police after finding what they described as "a large amount of gold."
Yesterday, police published photographs showing roughly 50 gold bars and stacks of gold coins seized at the scene.
Where the treasure was found
Belgian reports say the bars and coins were discovered sealed into the cellar walls of a building that belongs to a charitable organization.
The total value of the items is put at about nine million euros; officials have not provided further public details about the ownership or how long the items had been concealed.
