19 detained for reckless driving across North Macedonia
Police held 19 people in the last 24 hours for reckless driving — cases include drunk driving, driving without licence and breaches of driving bans.
The Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) said that over the past 24 hours police detained 19 drivers across the country on suspicion of the criminal offence of "reckless driving" under Article 297-a of the Criminal Code.
Among those held for driving under the influence were M.R. (24) from the Skopje region, N.K. (23) from the Demir Hisar area, H.T. (20) from Bitola, F.A. (24) from Kumanovo, S.I. (33) from the Kumanovo region, Z.L. (49) from Sveti Nikole, G.S. (45) from Delchevo, G.Ch. (48) from Kavadarci, 26-year-old K.R. from Kavadarci and 34-year-old Z.B.P. from Veles.
Eight persons were detained for driving without a passed driving test: S.V. (47) and M.J. (23), both from Skopje; B.I. (20) from the village of Drachevica, Skopje region; R.T. (18) from Gevgelija; Z.H. (59) from the village of Lokveni, Prilep region; A.R. (34) from the village of Gorna Recica, Tetovo region; and two 16-year-old boys from the Gostivar area.
In addition, I.B. (39) from Skopje was detained for driving while an active court-imposed ban on driving was in force.
Next steps and a ministry appeal
"After full documentation of the cases, appropriate criminal charges will be filed. We appeal to all road users to respect traffic rules and regulations, not to drive without a valid driver's licence or if a driving ban has been imposed, or if under the influence of alcohol, and to all jointly contribute to safer traffic," the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.
The MIA said the detainees will be formally charged after investigators complete the case files.
