65 West Nile fever cases recorded in North Macedonia by September 15
Institute of Public Health: 65 total cases — 60 confirmed, 63 hospitalized and 8 deaths reported by September 15.
As of September 15, North Macedonia has recorded a total of 65 cases of West Nile fever, the Institute of Public Health reports. Of those, 60 are listed as confirmed and five as probable.
Geographic spread and travel history
Most cases are concentrated in the capital: 60 patients live in Skopje. Two cases come from Veles, and one case each has been registered in Kumanovo, Sveti Nikole and Kavadarci. One patient has a travel history to Greece.
The vast majority of those infected required hospital care — 63 patients have been hospitalized to date.
Authorities report eight fatal cases so far. Health officials continue surveillance and vector-control measures while monitoring hospitalized patients.
The Institute of Public Health says the new figures are part of its latest epidemiological report and urges the public to take standard mosquito-bite prevention measures and seek medical attention if symptoms develop.
