Afrim Gashi Spends Ilinden in Cairo as Main Speaker at Anti‑Discrimination Conference
The Speaker of the Assembly was the main speaker at the Cairo conference organized by the League of Arab States and ICESCO.
Afrim Gashi spent Ilinden in Cairo, Egypt, where he attended and served as the main speaker at the Second International Conference to Combat Discrimination. The event was organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States in cooperation with ICESCO (Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization).
According to the Assembly's press office, the conference gathered representatives of parliaments and governments, officials from international organizations, academics and religious leaders. Sessions focused on the role of Muslim communities in Western countries, ways to promote tolerance and interreligious dialogue, protection of human rights, countering hate speech and building a culture of peace.
In his address, Gashi presented the Republic of North Macedonia as an example of interreligious and multiethnic coexistence and underlined that diversity is an asset and a key foundation for the development of a democratic, inclusive society.
Parliamentary role in protecting rights
He stressed that the fight against every form of discrimination is not only about defending a single community but about safeguarding human dignity, equality, freedom of conscience and respect for differences. Gashi emphasised the responsibility of parliaments and public institutions to strengthen dialogue and protect fundamental rights.
The Assembly's press release noted that participants exchanged experiences and proposals aimed at improving legal and educational measures to prevent discrimination and hate speech, and to advance peaceful coexistence across diverse societies.
