Albina Grčić recounts spiritual turning point after Medjugorje visit at Zadar church

Albina Grčić, who represented Croatia at Eurovision 2021, delivered an emotional testimony inside the Church of St. Francis in Zadar, where she spoke openly about faith, love, the pressures of the music industry and a spiritual turning point that she says changed her life.

She said that winning Dora and the intense media attention that followed did not bring the fulfilment she had expected. According to Grčić, public focus gradually shifted away from her voice to her appearance and private life.

"I realised that my singing no longer mattered at all. In the end it all came down to what I wore, who I was seen with, who saw me, which beach I had photographed on and what colour my hair is," she told the congregation.

Turning point in Medjugorje

Grčić singled out a pilgrimage to Medjugorje as the decisive moment on her spiritual path. During a confession with a priest she already knew, she experienced a powerful emotional and spiritual release.

"I felt a kind of tension leaving me, from my feet through my whole body up to my head. I began to cry, uncontrollably. For me that was God's intervention," she said.

After that experience she resolved to live according to the values of premarital chastity, a decision that also affected her career choices — at one point she even considered withdrawing completely from the stage. Not long after, offers began to arrive that she says matched what she had always wanted professionally.

Grčić also spoke about her personal hopes: although at 18 she pictured marrying at 23 and becoming a mother, life took a different course, yet her desire for a family remains. She stressed that she does not want to impose her convictions on others or judge them, but simply to share her story as a personal testimony.
