Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has dissolved the National Assembly and scheduled snap parliamentary elections for 25 October 2026.
The move follows a proposal by Prime Minister Đuro Macut, who put forward the dissolution at a government session on 7 September. The cabinet accepted the proposal during that session, which started the legal procedure needed for the president to call elections.
Legal step and timing
Once the government accepted the prime minister's proposal, a 72-hour period began during which the President of the Republic must decide whether to endorse the cabinet's reasoning. To hold elections on 25 October, the vote had to be officially called no later than 10 September.
The scheduled ballot will be the 15th parliamentary election since the introduction of the multi-party system and the 11th snap election in Serbia's modern history.
The announcement sets the formal start of a short campaign timetable and clears the legal requirement that made dissolution and a presidential signature necessary before the date could be fixed.
