Angelov: Three "ertractors" fighting wildfire on Zeden
Director of the Directorate for Protection and Rescue says steep, brush-choked slopes at Zeden make ground intervention impossible.
Three "ertractors" from the Directorate for Protection and Rescue (DPR) are fighting a wildfire today on the steep, inaccessible slopes of Mount Zeden near Jazhince, DPR director Stojanche Angelov said.
Angelov described the fire as burning on terrain that is both steep and impassable, covered with dense brambles and shrubs, which makes any intervention by ground crews impossible.
Air operations concentrated on key points
He said the three "ertractors" are being used to focus suppression efforts at several critical points along the fire line.
"'The 'ertractors' are operating today with concentrated action at several points where we intend to cut the fire and prevent its spread. In that way we will establish partial control, and perhaps by the end of the day full control of this fire, which means it will remain active but within a controlled area," Angelov said.
Angelov also expressed his gratitude to the Directorate's pilots, noting that they work selflessly every day and take personal risks by flying low over the flames. He added that volunteer firefighters are delivering excellent results on the ground.
