Anima Mundi demands investigation into killings in Mavrovo National Park
The animal‑protection group wants an immediate moratorium and full accountability after videos allegedly show wild goats killed and blood consumed.
Anima Mundi, a North Macedonian animal-protection association, demanded an immediate institutional response and a full investigation after circulating footage it says shows wild goats being killed in Mavrovo National Park and people drinking the blood of a slain animal.
The association called the conduct unacceptable and said it could not be justified as sport, tourism or love of nature.
Demands and questions
Anima Mundi asked who authorised or enabled the incident, who was responsible for control in the area, and who knew about what happened. The group publicly backed Eko-Svest and other environmental organisations that have called for urgent institutional action and stronger protection for Mavrovo.
Pointing to the wider duty to safeguard protected areas, the association urged an immediate moratorium on activities that could endanger the park’s natural values until proper, functioning protection measures are put in place.
In a direct appeal to the government, institutions and politicians who often speak about the country’s natural beauty, Anima Mundi said that love for the homeland is shown by protecting forests, rivers, biodiversity and wildlife — not by rhetoric.
The association warned that national parks must not become hunting playgrounds and that protected animals must be shielded in practice, not only on paper. It called for full transparency, accountability and sanctions where appropriate.
