One person killed and several wounded after a car was driven into people outside Caen railway station; suspect arrested.

A vehicle was driven into a group of people waiting outside the railway station in Caen on the night of August 27, 2026, leaving at least one person dead and several others injured, local authorities said.
"The consequences are serious. We have one fatality, seven people in critical condition, and three others seriously injured but their lives are out of danger," said David Clavier, prefect of the Calvados department.
The driver was arrested shortly after the incident. Authorities said the suspect is a man born in Russia who was not previously known to intelligence services.
Police review CCTV and probe motives
Investigators are conducting a criminal inquiry and carrying out a detailed review of security camera footage from the area. Motives for the attack remain unknown.
Meanwhile, posts circulating on social media gave different casualty figures and in some cases named a man identified as "Ibrahim I." as the attacker; police statements have not confirmed those social-media claims. The investigation is ongoing and authorities continue to gather and verify evidence.
