Sanja Bozhinovska: electricity production stable, RKE to announce final fuel prices on Monday (2 Nov 2026)

Energy Minister Sanja Bozhinovska said on 29 October 2026 that electricity production in North Macedonia is stable and that ESM is ensuring secure supply for citizens, while the final decision on fuel prices will be published by the Energy Regulatory Commission (RKE) on Monday, 2 November 2026.

Ministry reassures public, says fuel outcome depends on RKE

Bozhinovska told reporters at the opening of the Energo Technoma 2026 fair that the government is monitoring gas prices daily and that ESM is already negotiating longer-term gas supplies at more competitive rates. She also said EVN should announce a tender in the coming period.

On the question of fuel prices she said the public should wait for the regulator: "This Government is very responsible, it did not allow any price shocks. We had the lowest fuel prices. What companies submit to RKE is one thing, because you can request and provide your own calculations. But RKE will decide what the final outcome will be. I ask you to wait for the decision of the Regulatory (Commission), to see finally what its decision will be and how much increase there will be, if any. As for the price of electricity, we are witnesses that it was up to 1,000 euros in the past. But that is the exchange, supply, demand, it reacts to geopolitical events. You know we have a serious war. Since 2022 there have been geopolitical shifts that influence final prices. We have stable production, ESM is taking care of secure supply for our citizens," she said.

Bozhinovska added that measures taken so far — repeated reductions of excise duties and VAT, plus temporary discounts offered by the fuel company OKTA — have softened the effect on households and that the OKTA discount remains in force until next week.

She outlined ESM's current pricing stance, noting that when this government took office produced electricity cost over 135 euros per megawatt-hour, while ESM now sells at 65 euros — a deliberate concession aimed at protecting citizens' living standards. She also said subsidies will be discussed depending on the financial implications.

On regional gas infrastructure she was categorical that political changes in Serbia will not derail ongoing projects: "I am sure that changes on the political scene in Serbia will have no effect. With our northern neighbour we will be a new way of alternative supply of gas to all Europe. I do not believe there will be shifts when it comes to political events. Regarding the gas pipelines, together with the Republic of Greece we constantly monitor deadlines, nothing has been delayed, and the timelines we gave still apply. So, next year around June the route to Greece should be finished for those 68 kilometres, and in August a contractor was selected for the northern border for those 22 kilometres. 2028 is the year when the entire border will be finished. Elections in Serbia will absolutely not disrupt anything. We have drawn up a gantt of activities and we are good with the deadlines. There is no shift," she underlined.
