Officers were alerted to three "suspicious vehicles" thought to be travelling toward RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire at about 00:45 last night. Armed police later detained five men in the Welford area on suspicion of breaching the Explosives Act.
Following the initial arrests, the men were additionally detained on suspicion of preparing a terrorist act. Authorities have not released the detainees' identities or further details about possible motives.
The operation involved armed units responding to the report and intercepting the vehicles before they reached the base. Local roads in the Welford area were briefly affected while police conducted searches and security checks.
Investigations are continuing and police said the case remains ongoing as they work to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and any potential links to broader threats.
