Queues for entry into Serbia as checks intensify before tomorrow's elections

A notable queue built up at the border crossing from North Macedonia into Serbia today as drivers faced slower processing and more difficult passage than usual.

Authorities on the Serbian side carried out unusually long vehicle checks, and entry delays exceeded one hour in some cases.

Macedonian news teams were among those held up at the crossing. The TV Telma crew that traveled to Serbia to report on tomorrow’s vote was allowed through after nearly one hour of waiting.

Context ahead of the vote

The increased checks come ahead of snap parliamentary elections being held in Serbia tomorrow, following two-year protests in the country organized by students.

The longer controls at the border affected both private travellers and media crews this morning, slowing movement across the frontier as journalists prepared to cover the vote.
