Flowers, toys and candles at the Ibar promenade as Kraljevo mourns five-year-old V.B.

Along the promenade above the Ibar River in Kraljevo, where a serious traffic collision took place, residents have been bringing flowers, children's toys and lighting candles at the spot where five-year-old V.B. lost her life.

The small memorial has become a gathering point for the town; people leave tokens of sympathy for the family that endured an unimaginable shock in a matter of moments. The scene contains numerous tributes placed near the riverbank as neighbors pay their respects to the little girl.

What happened at the promenade

The crash occurred when 26-year-old J.A. from Kraljevo, driving a Seat Ibiza, allegedly — according to initial information — had no driving licence and was travelling at high speed when he struck a family of four who were out on an evening walk.

Those hit included five-year-old V.B., her one-year-old sister A.B., their 32-year-old mother Dragana B., and their 35-year-old father Strahinja B. Medical crews attended the scene and treated the injured. The five-year-old was in a critical condition, and despite doctors' efforts, "she succumbed to her injuries this morning."

The younger sister was examined and released for home treatment. The mother, who suffered multiple fractures, remained hospitalised for further care, while the father sustained lighter injuries.

After the collision, the driver of the Seat was arrested on suspicion of having committed a serious criminal offence against traffic safety. The event has left Kraljevo shaken; photographs from the promenade show the grief that has gripped the local community.

Citizens of all ages have come to the riverside to express sympathy, and the flowers, toys and burning candles remain at the site as a quiet commemoration for five-year-old V.B., whose life was cut short in the tragic accident.
