DOM demands public answers on Krstov Dol after DFC financing

DOM has asked the Government of North Macedonia to publish full and verifiable information about the Krstov Dol antimony project after Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski said the cabinet will not abandon antimony exploitation for economic development.

Party officials pointed out that in April the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) signed an agreement for up to $5 million in development financing for the company Pela Global. They stressed these funds are intended for feasibility studies and research to confirm whether the project is sustainable, and warned that any claimed strategic interest by global supply chains must not be treated as proof of economic viability or used to weaken environmental standards.

Key questions DOM wants answered

  • What are the proven ore reserves and on the basis of which geological surveys were they established?
  • What capacity and what extraction and processing technology are planned?
  • How much water will be consumed, from which sources, and how will pollution be prevented?
  • Where will the tailings be stored and who will guarantee long-term safety?
  • Who will cover the costs of reclamation and what financial guarantees will the investor provide?
  • Have independent studies on health and environmental impacts been conducted, and when will they be made available to the public?

DOM demanded that the Government respond publicly to each of these questions and make all supporting documentation available for independent scrutiny.

"If the Government truly wants this project to be an example of economic development, then it must also be an example of transparency, accountability and protection of the public interest," the party said.
