DUI demands probe and resignation of Deputy Interior Minister Astrit Iseni

The Democratic Union for Integration (DUI) has demanded an immediate and full investigation after two young men, aged 21 and 23, alleged they were brutally mistreated by police officers.

According to the account provided to the party, the men say officers broke a window and the officer's pistol ended up inside their vehicle. An internal police report, however, asserts that the youths took the officer's weapon.

Contrasting versions and calls for accountability

The two men told party representatives that police fired shots, punctured the car's tires and then restrained and beat them after tying their hands and forcing them to lie on the ground. DUI says these claims point to serious use-of-force and demand transparent clarification.

DUI is asking for an urgent inquiry to establish the full facts of the incident and for responsibility to be assigned for any misconduct by law-enforcement personnel. The party also called for the resignation of Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Astrit Iseni.

Party officials said the case must be fully clarified and that any breaches of law or procedure by police should carry consequences; they described the demand for Iseni's resignation as part of ensuring political responsibility for the institution overseeing the police.

The party's request sets a deadline for prompt action and public disclosure of the investigation's findings, while underlining the need for oversight of policing practices.
