Filiz Ahmet: Skopje-born actress who won the world with Magnificent Century

Filiz Ahmet, the Skopje-born actress who rose to fame across the region with her portrayal of Nigar Kalfa in the hit Turkish series Magnificent Century, remains a frequent presence on social media and continues to attract attention with a refreshed, youthful look.

From stage training in Skopje to life in Beşiktaş

Ahmet was born in Skopje in 1981 into a family with deep theatrical roots: her grandfather Lutfi Sejfulah was one of the country’s best-known actors, and her mother, Feyhan, worked as a prompter in the theatre. She completed her studies at the Faculty of Dramatic Arts in Skopje in 2003 before moving to Istanbul to pursue a career on camera.

The role of Nigar Kalfa in Magnificent Century brought Ahmet wide regional and international recognition and led her to settle in the Beşiktaş district of Istanbul. About the demanding schedule on set she later recalled: “We filmed every day for 15 hours, six days a week. It was incredibly demanding, but when you do what you love, you find strength. Above all I missed my family — when I returned from filming they were already asleep. That's why whenever I can I come to Skopje to enjoy the peace of my city and time with my friends,” the actress said.

On Instagram Ahmet now shares snapshots that highlight a more relaxed lifestyle: a shorter, popular "bob" haircut, sun-drenched holidays, moments aboard yachts and sunsets from Fethiye. Her recent images project a blend of elegance and youthful energy that has drawn renewed attention.

She remains visible in the Turkish entertainment circle, frequently photographed with leading stars, and is noted for speaking several languages. One of her posts that attracted attention showed her with folk legend Hanka Paldum, a meeting that was widely commented on by followers.

Although her roots are in theatre, the camera discovered Ahmet’s particular talent and the audience in North Macedonia still follows her career with pride as she balances life between Istanbul and visits back to Skopje.
