Long queues at Bogorodica and Tabanovce as drivers leave the country

Long vehicle queues formed this morning at the Bogorodica and Tabanovce border crossings as many drivers head out of North Macedonia. At about 6:45 a.m. cameras and eyewitnesses recorded an extended line of cars waiting to cross into Greece at Bogorodica.

The Automobile and Motorcycle Association of Macedonia (AMSM) reported current waiting times: at Tabanovce, for entry into North Macedonia, the delay is about 20 to 30 minutes; at Bogorodica, for exit toward Greece, the hold time is around 15 to 30 minutes.

The association warned that conditions can change rapidly because of the increased number of vehicles. Early-morning footage from Bogorodica showed several lanes of cars queued in front of the checkpoint.

Causes and travel advice

AMSM links the heavier traffic to trips toward the Greek coast and to the end-of-August turnover of tourists. Outside urban areas, roadway volumes are higher than usual.

According to AMSM, other border crossings on the Macedonian side currently do not have longer delays. Drivers planning to travel to Greece or Serbia today are advised to check the latest status of the border crossings immediately before departure, since waiting times may change significantly during the day.

Motorists are recommended to allow extra time for their journeys, consider alternative crossings if possible, and monitor AMSM updates for the most recent information.
