Thousands protest in Prague against Andrej Babiš's government
Rally in Prague's Old Town Square organized by Million Moments for Democracy, with calls to vote in the 9–10 October elections.
Thousands of people took to the streets of Prague to protest against the government led by Prime Minister Andrej Babiš.
The demonstration was organized by Million Moments for Democracy, which criticized the government over policies related to national security, disinformation and public media. Protesters gathered at the Old Town Square and waved flags of the Czech Republic, the European Union and Ukraine.
Calls to vote ahead of October ballots
Organizers urged citizens to participate en masse in the upcoming local elections and in the vote for one-third of the Senate, scheduled for 9 and 10 October. The appeal made the rally as much about turnout as about policy objections.
Participants also voiced concerns about a possible conflict of interest connected to Babiš, and about his recent statements regarding the independence of the judiciary.
Associations of lawyers and judges responded to those remarks, describing them as "an attack on the judiciary."
