Albania: inflation climbs to 3.2% in August
Consumer prices edged up 0.1% from July; transport, food and housing were the main contributors.
Inflation in Albania reached 3.2% in August, up from 2.3% in the same month a year earlier, while consumer prices rose 0.1% compared with July.
The Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) said the largest contributions to the annual inflation rate came from the groups "food and non-alcoholic beverages" (0.95 percentage points), "transport" (0.79) and "rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" (0.76).
Sector trends and annual movements
On a year-on-year basis, the biggest price increase was recorded in the "transport" group, which rose by 12%. It was followed by "recreation, sports and culture" at 5.4% and "insurance and financial services" at 4.6%.
Prices in the "rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels" group increased by 3.7%, while "food and non-alcoholic beverages" and "furniture, household appliances and household maintenance" each rose by 2.8% year-on-year.
Month-on-month, the largest rise was in "transport" (+3.9%). Prices also increased by 0.2% in "restaurants and accommodation" and by 0.1% in "rent, water, electricity, gas and other fuels". By contrast, "clothing and footwear" fell by 1.1%, "food and non-alcoholic beverages" by 0.4%, "alcoholic beverages and tobacco" by 0.3%, and "furniture, household appliances and household maintenance" by 0.1%.
INSTAT's data indicate that costs for food, transport, housing and energy remain among the main factors shaping inflation in the country.
