Iran executes two men convicted of spying for Israel

Iran executed two men on August 3, 2026, after convicting them of spying for Israel, Iranian media reported.
The authorities named the two as Omid Behzad and Pouria Safvat and said they had passed coordinates, photographs and other intelligence about military and security sites during the Ramadan War and the Twelve‑Day War.
Officials also said the pair operated through communications channels tied to the Israeli intelligence service, Mossad, and that the suspects received “substantial assistance” in carrying out their tasks.
An intercepted message attributed to one of the accused thanked Mossad and described a recording he was unable to transmit because of poor internet. The message read: "I also have a recording showing them firing from this facility at a drone or combat aircraft, but the internet is weak and I can't send it. Thank you, soldiers of His Holiness Moses."
Executions and limited public detail
The executions were announced by state-aligned outlets but authorities gave no further public detail about the judicial process, the exact locations of the crimes, or whether any foreign governments had been notified. The case adds to tensions between Tehran and Israel amid recent regional hostilities.
