Video released showing Mojtaba Khamenei in public for first time since attack

An Iranian media outlet released a short video showing Mojtaba Khamenei, who is presented as Iran’s supreme religious leader, appearing in public for the first time since the February attack that killed his father.

In the clip, shared on a messaging channel, Khamenei is seen in profile, seated in a room surrounded by several people and talking with them; the broadcaster did not specify when or where the footage was recorded. The right half of his face is not visible in the video.

Official lines and continuing rumours

Kasem Koraishi, deputy commander of the Basij — the volunteer paramilitary force that operates within the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) — said a series of recordings showing the supreme leader in public, on the streets and at meetings with senior military commanders will be released “soon.” The statement was posted on a judicial portal.

Higher-ranking Iranian officials have previously said Mojtaba Khamenei sustained facial deformities and other injuries in the attack on 28 February, which also killed his father, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. The assault took place on the first day of the airstrikes by the United States and Israel against targets in Iran.

Separately, an Iranian news portal cited two sources close to President Masud Pezeshkian’s administration who said Mojtaba Khamenei is in critical condition and “may die at any moment.” According to those sources, he has not met with any cabinet member since the attack, and rumours about his health continue to circulate within the regime’s top ranks.

The newly released clip appears intended to counter speculation about the leader’s health, but independent confirmation of his condition and the timing of the footage remains limited.
