Israel says it destroyed Hezbollah underground infrastructure in southern Lebanon

Israel's military says it has destroyed underground positions used by the Iran-backed group Hezbollah in southern Lebanon, a development announced by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz.

In a joint post on X the two ministers described the operation as completing "the consolidation of the security zone in southern Lebanon."

There has been no confirmation from Lebanese authorities or from Hezbollah so far.

Strategic ridge and recent fighting

Israeli forces took control of the Ali Taher ridge a week earlier, according to the Israeli account; Israeli media reported that Hezbollah fighters had been entrenched there for weeks and that the area was the scene of repeated clashes.

The Israel Defense Forces said on Telegram that, after extensive preparations, they demolished the underground infrastructure beneath the strategic ridge. The army added that "The ability of Hezbollah to use such infrastructure to plan and carry out terrorist attacks against Israeli civilians and soldiers has been completely eliminated."

The announcement underlines Israel's stated intention to maintain a buffer presence and to prevent Hezbollah from reconstituting facilities on the heights, but the claims await independent verification from Lebanese or international sources.
