Kishawn Porter charged with murder of 2-year-old in Mesa

Trigger warning: Child abuse and pedicide.

Kishawn Porter, a 23-year-old professional boxer from Phoenix, Arizona, has been arrested in Mesa and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse after prosecutors say his girlfriend’s 2-year-old son died of severe injuries.

Police responded to an apartment just before dawn after firefighters and emergency crews found the toddler in critical condition. He was rushed to hospital but did not survive. Court filings say doctors observed suspicious bruising that prompted a police inquiry.

An autopsy, prosecutors say, found both recent and older rib fractures and catastrophic internal injuries to the liver, stomach and pancreas — damage the medical examiner said “takes substantial force.” Prosecutors allege Porter struck the child repeatedly, including hitting and punching multiple times.

Public reaction and social-media comments

Social-media users and commentators condemned the reported violence. One widely shared post read: "Boxers are supposed to fight grown men. Prosecutors say this one used his fists on a toddler." — Michael Mattox – The Mad Ox (@TheRealMadOx) October 2, 2026.

Authorities are also investigating allegations that Porter abused another child, a 1-year-old. Officials noted bruising on Porter’s knuckles and say two sports organizations have already terminated their relationships with him. The court set bond at $1.5 million cash. The investigation continues and Porter faces the prospect of many years in prison if convicted.
