Criminal charges after 7,813.49 kg medical cannabis shortage at Strumica-area company

The Strumica police department and health ministry inspectors discovered a shortage of nearly eight tonnes of dried medical cannabis flower during an inspection at a licensed cultivation company's storage facility, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said.

Officers from the Strumica Regional Police Department, together with representatives of the competent commission from the Ministry of Health, identified several irregularities during the check. In addition to missing employment and other required records, they recorded a deficit of exactly 7,813.49 kilograms of dried medical cannabis flower.

Criminal charges were filed against a legal entity registered in the village of Borisovo, Novo Selo municipality, and against V.K. from Novo Selo, residing in Strumica, in his capacity as manager of the company. The charges relate to suspected offences under the Law on Control of Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances.

Authorities: no documentation for quantity found

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reported that the company did not possess appropriate documentation or any proof of origin and disposal for the amount of medical cannabis that was found to be missing. Investigators are treating the lack of records as a key element in the criminal case.

Police and health inspectors opened the case following the on-site inventory and have forwarded the materials to the competent prosecutorial authorities as the legal process moves forward.
