Lidl in North Macedonia: paid leave for parents, price cuts and donation for Kavadarci roundabout

Lidl's arrival in North Macedonia comes with consumer and staff-focused measures: paid leave for parents of first-graders, permanent price cuts on many regular-range items and a local infrastructure donation in Kavadarci.

The retailer maintains a long-running HR practice that allows employees to be present at their child's first day of school: for the 12th consecutive year Lidl offers a paid day off to parents whose children start first grade as part of its feelgood@lidl programme. The company also gives small gifts to the pupils of employees to mark the new school year.

On the shopping side, Lidl has rolled out a broad permanent price-reduction campaign across numerous markets, with discounts reaching up to 33 percent. Under the motto "One country, one price," the chain promises uniform regular prices in all its stores and highlights its own-brand assortment and quality.

How stores are being reorganised

Alongside lower prices, Lidl introduced a simplified shopping concept called Simplicity: non-food items are grouped into clearly marked thematic zones (home, kitchen, garden, sports, clothing and a children's corner) to make navigation easier for customers.

In Kavadarci the company went a step further: while building its stores there, Lidl provided a donation for a new modern roundabout on North Boulevard. The junction covers a total area of 5,300 square metres and is intended to improve traffic flow, safety and the city's functionality. Mayor Mitko Janchev publicly thanked the company on social media, saying: "A special thank you to Lidl for the donation and support in the realization of this project. Together we create better conditions for movement and everyday functioning of the citizens."

With combined measures for staff welfare, shopper savings and a local infrastructure gift, Lidl presents its market entry as both a commercial and socially responsible move ahead of opening its first stores in North Macedonia.
