North Macedonia and four other Western Balkan governments—Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Albania and Montenegro—have aligned their national policies with a decision adopted by the Council of the European Union on restrictive measures targeting terrorism.

The development was confirmed today by Kaja Kallas, the EU representative for foreign affairs and security policy.

Council decision and list review

On 30 July the Council of the European Union completed a routine review of the list of individuals, groups and entities subject to sanctions. The outcome of that review left the existing sanctions list unchanged.

Alongside the five Western Balkan states, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova and Ukraine also joined the Council decision, signalling coordinated action beyond the EU member states.

All the countries mentioned have said they will adapt their national measures to reflect the Council's decision.

How representative is Kaja Kallas of the EU's foreign policy?
