Makedonium in Krushevo used for Don Jonni video for €500
Board of the Historical Museum approved short-term use; heritage authority says no permit request was filed.
The Makedonium memorial complex in Krushevo was made available for a short music-video shoot for €500, used in parts of the video for the song "Seksi mama" by Kosovar rapper Don Jonni, the director of the Historical Museum in Krushevo confirmed.
"We assigned the space by a decision of the Board of Directors at a price of 500 euros for several hours. This is not the first time, and on other occasions we have made the Makedonium available for an appropriate price. But the entire video was not shot inside the Makedonium. The parts with beds and dancing were filmed elsewhere," said Miha Odzhaklieski, director of the Historical Museum Krushevo.
Permits and the heritage authority
The Agency for Protection of Cultural Heritage told museum officials that no formal request for permission to film inside the protected site was submitted to the agency. The agency handles applications for photography and film shoots in protected buildings and may refuse a request if it judges the event or content is not a cultural manifestation.
The Makedonium was created by the artist couple Yordan and Iskra Grabuloski and the memorial complex was unveiled on 2 August 1974; it also contains the grave of Nikola Karev, the president of the Krushevo Republic.
For years the structure has suffered from leaks and damage. This summer a metal frame was installed over some stained-glass sections as a weather protection measure, drawing public criticism and comments that the monument appeared to be behind bars. While a permanent restoration plan is pending, the film crew used parts of the complex for the music video.
