North Macedonia’s flag raised at opening of Mediterranean Games in Taranto
Dejan Georgievski and Leona Milenkoska carried the flag as North Macedonia opened its campaign at the Taranto 2026 Mediterranean Games.

North Macedonia’s flag was prominently displayed at the opening ceremony of the Mediterranean Games in Taranto on August 21, 2026, as the country launched its campaign on the regional multi-sport stage.
Flagbearers lead the largest-ever Macedonian delegation
The honor of carrying the flag fell to taekwondo athlete Dejan Georgievski and handball player Leona Milenkoska, who led the Macedonian march alongside the rest of the team during the evening ceremony.
North Macedonia will take part in 19 sports out of the 33 disciplines on the Games programme, with competitors entered in both individual and team events.
In team competitions the country is represented by the women’s handball and volleyball teams, the men’s 3x3 basketball squad, and the under-21 national football team.
The delegation sent to Taranto is the largest North Macedonia has ever fielded at the Mediterranean Games: 130 members in total, including 90 athletes. With the national flag flying, the team begins the competition determined to make an impression and to contend for medals.
