Meteorologists warn: winter may arrive in North Macedonia in the first week of November

Meteorological model updates indicate that winter may arrive across the Balkans and in North Macedonia much earlier than usual — possibly as soon as the first week of November, meteorologist Slavcho Poposki said.

“Already in the first week of November, meteorological models draw the arrival of that real winter and winter temperatures in the Balkans and in North Macedonia, very low negative temperatures and the appearance of frosts. In such a situation, of course, the first snowfall of the season can also appear at lower elevations.

However, I will continuously monitor the state of the meteorological models regarding this possible scenario. I should of course note that citizens should not take this as set in stone; changes to this possible scenario are possible with further updates of the meteorological models,” he posted.

What the models suggest

Poposki and the model outputs point to a significant push of cold air that would bring markedly subzero night temperatures and widespread frost. Under that pattern, initial snowfalls could reach lower-lying areas earlier than in a typical season.

He stressed that these signals come from current model runs and are being followed closely. Forecast models are updated often, and the development or weakening of the projected cold spell will depend on how those runs evolve in the coming days.

Authorities and the public are advised to track official weather updates as the situation develops and to prepare for the possibility of early cold, frost and local snow, especially in vulnerable sectors such as transport and agriculture.
