Mickoski at UN: Macedonian citizens know where they belong — with NATO, EU and the US
At the 81st UN General Assembly in New York, Mickoski said the three pillars — NATO, the United States and EU membership — are a single strategic orientation.
Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski told the United Nations General Assembly in New York that his country’s strategic choices form a single geopolitical orientation rather than three separate policies.
"Our answer is clarity"
Speaking at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Mickoski said the population knows where it belongs and outlined three pillars of the country's foreign policy: NATO membership, the United States as a strategic partner, and full accession to the European Union.
"Macedonian citizens know where they belong. We are an ally in NATO. The United States of America are our strategic partner. Full membership in the European Union is our strategic determination. These are not three separate policies. This is one geopolitical orientation, grounded in democracy, collective security, the rule of law and an open economy. In a time of uncertainty, our answer is not strategic ambiguity. Our answer is clarity," Mickoski said in his address to the 81st United Nations General Assembly.
The prime minister presented the trio of commitments as interconnected elements that, he said, reflect the country's stance amid global uncertainty. He framed them as instruments tied to democratic values, security cooperation and economic openness.
Mickoski delivered the remarks from the UN podium in New York, addressing an international audience and reiterating North Macedonia's declared foreign-policy direction.
