At least 14 people were killed and 11 were injured on September 9, 2026, when a site used for the temporary storage of weapons exploded near the town of Sarmada in Syria's Idlib governorate, state television reported.
The Syrian Ministry of Defense said soldiers were among the wounded, and civil defence teams and firefighters were working at the scene, British media reported.
Repeated secondary explosions complicated efforts to extinguish the blaze, with thick smoke billowing for hours. Authorities have not yet announced what caused the initial blast.
Previous ammunition incident
At the beginning of September a vehicle carrying ammunition detonated in Binnis, killing five people, local reports said.

Officials have not released further details about casualties or an investigation timeline. Emergency teams remained on site as authorities sought to secure the area and determine the cause.
