National Jazz Orchestra spaces under the Opera to be ready in October, not September
Renovation of the 500 m² area under the National Opera and Ballet is in its final phase; completion moved from September to end of October.
The rehearsal and support spaces for the National Jazz Orchestra (NJO), located beneath the National Opera and Ballet, are now expected to be finished at the end of October rather than in September, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism says.
The refurbished area covers about 500 square metres and will include a large rehearsal hall for the orchestra linked to a sound studio, dressing rooms, offices and other ancillary rooms, officials said.
Delay after earlier timetable
On 27 May, former Minister of Culture Zoran Ljutkov and NJO director Goce Stevkovski visited the site while renovation was under way and announced that work would be completed in September. At a 14 September press conference about the new season and visiting artists, Stevkovski said the question of obtaining a permanent home must be addressed to the Ministry, since it holds the premises and controls the implementation process.
"Without our own premises we cannot realise all our ideas," the National Jazz Orchestra said, announcing a series of concerts and the release of an album.
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism told the newsroom that the renovation and equipping of the National Jazz Orchestra’s spaces are in the final phase. After two years of work, the adaptation is expected to be completed within three months.
