No active fires as of 7:30 — 16 fires reported, 2 under control, 14 extinguished
Center for Crisis Management: 16 fires registered in 24 hours; two remain under control near Belica and Rapesh/Makovo, 14 were extinguished.
No active wildfires were recorded in the country as of 7:30 this morning, the Center for Crisis Management (CCM) reports. During the previous 24 hours a total of 16 fires were registered, of which two remain under control and 14 have been extinguished.
Controlled blazes and extinguished incidents
The two fires still under control are near the village of Belica, at a locality called Kajorec in the Municipality of Macedonski Brod — an incident that has spread toward Jasen in the Municipality of Sopishte — and a separate fire close to the villages of Rapesh and Makovo in the Municipality of Novaci.
In the past day firefighting teams also worked to put out fires in Skopje’s municipalities of Saraj, Butel and Ilinden, as well as in Veles, Negotino, Struga, Ohrid, Valandovo, Strumica, Krivogashtani and Krushevo.
According to the CCM report, the outbreaks mainly affected low vegetation, low-stem forest, trash and landfill sites.
Authorities say that with the latest operations all active flames have been dealt with, while crews remain on alert for any renewed activity in vulnerable locations.
