Nikolina Janevska, Andrijana’s younger sister, shines in Bologna
Nikolina Janevska — mezzo-soprano from Skopje — performed Respighi’s "La Sensitiva" at Teatro del Baraccano and balances life between Italy and North Macedonia.
Two sisters, two singing careers and a striking family resemblance: Nikolina Janevska, the younger sister of well-known pop star Andrijana Janevska, is carving out her own name on the European opera stage.
From Skopje to Bologna — a rising mezzo-soprano
Nikolina is a mezzo-soprano affiliated with the National Opera and Ballet in Skopje and has accumulated a string of operatic roles and awards that have earned her recognition among classical-music audiences. While Andrijana is widely familiar for her pop performances, Nikolina pursues classical repertoire and an international concert calendar.
For several years Nikolina has divided her time between Italy and North Macedonia. She is married to the Italian conductor Džanluka Martinengi; the couple, together since 2019, have one child.
Recently Nikolina appeared at the Festival Respighi in Bologna, performing at the historic Teatro del Baraccano with Orchestra del Baraccano under conductor Džambatista Džokoli. Her rendition of Ottorino Respighi’s rarely performed piece "La Sensitiva" drew warm applause from the Italian audience.
Offstage the sisters display different passions: Andrijana is known for her love of speed and motorcycles, while Nikolina prefers the calm of the sea and regularly enjoys diving. On social media Nikolina shares travel moments, family life and highlights from her operatic appearances across Europe.
With a mix of talent, stage presence and growing international engagements, Nikolina Janevska continues to extend the family’s musical legacy beyond Macedonia.
