Prosecutor files proposal for new measures against Dejan Jovanov ahead of detention expiry
Prosecutor's Office filed a late-afternoon proposal; the Basic Criminal Court will act tomorrow.

The Basic Criminal Court in Skopje announced that the Prosecutor's Office has submitted a proposal to the court for new measures to secure the presence of Dejan Jovanov, who is currently in detention in the case connected to the fire in Kocani.
"Late this afternoon the Prosecutor's Office submitted to the Court a proposal to impose new measures to secure presence against Dejan Jovanov, who is already in detention in the case related to the fire in Kocani. It will be processed tomorrow," the court said in a statement.
Context and timing
The proposal arrived two days before Jovanov was due to be released: his most recent detention extension was set to expire on 3 October. Under the relevant legal provision, detention may be served for no longer than one year from the assessment of the indictment.
Some media outlets, citing their own sources, reported that the new filing may relate to a separate case; the Prosecutor's Office has not issued an official explanation so far.
According to information disclosed in the court record, Jovanov has offered collateral — 12 million denars (approximately €200,000) in real estate — as a guarantee that he will not abscond after release.
The court said it will consider the Prosecutor's proposal tomorrow and decide on any further measures. Until the court rules, Jovanov remains in custody on the investigation linked to the Kocani fire.
