Illegal meat cold room found in Vasilevo; 470 kg destroyed
Inspectors seized 400 kg of frozen meat preparations and 70 kg of internal organs; facility temporarily closed and fines imposed.

Vasilevo, October 26, 2026 — Inspectors from the Agency for Food and Veterinary (AFV) discovered an unregistered cold storage room for meat on private property in the Municipality of Vasilevo and seized a total of 470 kilograms of meat and meat products, which were subsequently destroyed.
"During the inspection, the official veterinarians of the AFV in the cold room found and seized 400 kilograms of frozen meat preparations, pljeskavica and ćevapi, as well as 70 kilograms of internal organs," the Agency said.
The facility has been temporarily closed and monetary fines were imposed on the legal entity that operates at the address. The inspection followed a prior tip-off, and AFV investigators determined the storage room was not registered with the agency.
Inspection results and wider removals
AFV said the seized products were destroyed in line with legal procedures. The Agency did not provide details about the origin of the goods, whether any portion had already been sold, the exact amount of the fines, or whether laboratory testing of the meat was performed.
According to AFV figures for this year, from January to August authorities carried out 74,838 inspections. From circulation they removed 69,776 kilograms of unsafe food of animal origin, 21,105 kilograms of non-animal food, and 122,602 kilograms of animal feed.
The case in Vasilevo highlights AFV's ongoing controls of food businesses and storage sites; investigators say follow-up actions and any additional sanctions will depend on the results of administrative proceedings.
