Illegal fishing nets removed from Mavrovo Lake; inspections will continue

Officials from Mavrovo National Park found and removed illegally placed fishing nets from Mavrovo Lake during a routine patrol, the park said. The discovery prompted an immediate notification to the Mavrovi Anovi Police Station, and park authorities say they are working with relevant institutions to determine who is responsible.

Inspections to continue

The park has announced that lake inspections will continue with the aim of protecting the fish population and preventing unauthorized use of natural resources. Rangers and inspectors will maintain regular checks on the shoreline and the water.

Park managers emphasised that all infringements will be properly documented and handled under the law. Measures already under way are intended to identify and hold accountable those who placed the nets.

Park officials also called on citizens, recreational anglers and nature enthusiasts to report any form of illegal fishing or other activities that threaten the environment. Reports can help authorities respond faster and collect evidence.

Preserving Mavrovo Lake, the park said, is a joint responsibility of public institutions and the wider community, and the park reiterated its commitment to continued monitoring and enforcement.
