Prosecutors across the country are voting to choose a new head of the Public Prosecutor's Office for the Prosecution of Organized Crime and Corruption (the office known by the Macedonian acronym OJOGKK).

The five candidates in the running are Faton Azizi (currently a prosecutor at OJOGKK), Trajche Pelivanov, Lidija Raichevic, Iskra Hadzi Vasileva and Jovan Cvetanovski.

The ballot opened at 08:00 and closed at 16:00. Prosecutors voted at the Republic Public Prosecutor's Office and at four higher public prosecutor's offices in Skopje, Gostivar, Shtip and Bitola. One of the election commission chairs, prosecutor Elvin Veli, said the voting “se odviva neprechejno” — that is, it proceeded without obstacles.

Today 187 prosecutors were eligible to cast ballots in the vote.

State Prosecutor Nenad Saveski exercised his right to vote. He said he hopes that the elected prosecutor “dosledno će odgovoriti na zadacite i obvrskite za zaednichko pridonesuvanje za zajaknuvanje na doverbata vo institucijata i jasno pokazuvanje efikasna borba protiv organiziraniot kriminal i korupcijata.”

The five candidates had earlier presented their programs to the Council of Public Prosecutors. The selection follows the expiry of the mandate of Islam Abazi, who was chosen to lead the office in 2022.
